People

The people of Belize are very friendly, especially the children! Everywhere we go we're sure to make a few new friends. More than half of the local children our age attend school here but many do not. There are also a handful of other expat children here who are home-schooled so we don't usually have any problem finding playmates.

It isn't uncommon for random kids to just come over and grab your things to check them out and ask a lot of questions. For example, when I am fishing... I usually bring a few poles, a cast net for catching bait and a 5 gallon pail. Well, this always happens to me: I'll be fishing and a local boy or two will come along and pick up one of my extra poles and say "I can use this one."
I think it is their way of asking.

The local kids LOVE having their pictures taken!
The kids here are definitely not shy! They love to have their picture taken (more than we do, as you can see...) I'd say the adults are just as friendly, most are always smiling and saying hello when we pass on the street. Belize is a great place to make new friends :)
